Google unveils Cr-48, the first Chrome OS laptop.

I'm pretty excited to see how this pans out.  So far i'm not really excited to try out the new OS (seeing as its basically just Google chrome, a very basic file system, and that's it.  No desktop.  No other software.  Just Chrome.  Certainly a very interesting idea though, and very original.  I could only see myself using the Google OS on a laptop/netbook for checking facebook/blogs/other internet things, but not on a main desktop computer, since it lacks a good chunk of the functionality of windows.  On the bright side the internet will be a better place without caps lock, and that laptop is freaking beautifulSource

  1. Sounds interesting, although I've never really tried using even the chrome web browser.

  2. Have to say I'm a traditionalist, Windows does everything I ask of it and doesn't cause me any issues. So I see no reason to change.

  5. I haven't caught up on Chrome OS news. Last time I heard, it uses cloud computing and ONLY cloud computing. Does that mean you have to be on the net at all times to retain fucntionality of basic OS tasks?

  6. Yea, i'm pretty sure it's only cloud computing, which is a HUGE con for me. Cloud computing has its benefits in certain situations, but i don't think this is one of those. I could be wrong though.

  12. I'm definitely looking forward to Chrome OS. A lot of people are railing on it already, but I think centering an OS around the internet is the way things are heading. I'm on board.

  13. I thought the Cr-48 was developer only? Or are they doing a retail release?

  17. Chrome OS?

    ....

Competition is essential, Google may be taking over the world but the majority of its services to the public are free, they make a lot of money through licensing, but honestly they do a good job - Microsoft needs someone to bump them!

    Thanks for the post, following!

    Cheers, and good luck

    Mike.

  21. Google will win this battle. I bet in 50 years, computers that are more than browsers will be more like the gaming consoles are now.
